In this very readable and informative book Hozell Francis helps church planters achieve their goals more efficiently. He identifies the various models for church planting, which entail some of the reasons for planting a new church. He also examines economic factors, the homogeneous principle, and the resurgence of a missions emphasis in black churches. Along the way he also clears up some prominent misconceptions about black churches. Church Planting in the African American Context is a good combination of theory and practice--of whys and how-tos.

Hozell C. Francis (D. Min., Talbot School of Theology) is senior pastor of Emmaus Baptist Church in Ingelwood, CA. He is also a deputy probation officer and formerly was a professor at the Los Angeles Bible Training School. He has been in the pastoral ministry since 1980, has helped to plant two churches, and has assisted many other church-planting pastors. He holds a B.A. degree from San Diego State University and an M.Div. from Talbot
